- You may use this form as another 4-year planning if you wish to take a look at classes you might take, although it is not required.
SCIENCE REQUIREMENT
- All freshmen are required to take a full credit of Science and the options including the following:
- Intro to Biology (.5 credit) is required, which I have already entered.
- Students must also take either .5 credit Intro to Chemistry or .5 credit Intro to Biology. Give me your choice when we schedule.
- Exception: AP Environmental Science takes the place of the above 2 classes. Student must choose which they prefer to take.
- Students wanting to enter the medical field should take chemistry.
- Students strong in science are encouraged to take both.
MATH NOTES
- Students in Pre-AP Algebra 2 are not required to take Probability and Stats but are welcome to do so. Otherwise, they will complete the Probability and Stats work on their own, in addition to the Algebra 2 class. If you prefer not doing it as homework, sign up for it as a class.
- Students strong in math may double-up and take the next level of math if they plan to continue taking high levels of math. Students are required to have a math class every year.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE NOTES
- Although foreign language is not required to graduated, it is highly recommended for those on a college path.
- Students wanting to meet the foreign language requirement may decide to take one of the following.
- French 1
- Spanish I
- Latin I
- Students who are not relatively strong in English may want to wait a year to begin the foreign language requirement.
BAND NOTES
- If taking band, sign up for both Freshman Marching Band and Freshman Concert Band, so you will be in band all year.
- If a student is a percussionist, sign up for Percussion Studio III and IV instead of Freshman Concert Band.
- Students taking a full year of band earn their Fit for Life PE .5 credit, Arts and Humanities .5 credit, and Performance Art .5 credit.
- Music Theory-Technology counts for the Digital Literacy requirement and is a good way to learn about basic music theory and music notation software used for arranging and composition. This does not count toward a KOSSA track.
- Beginning band is for the non-traditional band student who may have taken for a while in middle school and now wants to try it again, students who have never played an instrument and want to give it a try, or someone who has an interest in learning a second instrument. These students will need to make provisions for obtaining an instrument and should conference with Mrs. Alward in order to determine instrument placement and availability.
